OVERVIEW: CREEKSIDE ESTATE WINERY — SPECIAL PROJECTS — LOST BARREL RED

Creekside did actually “lose” a barrel in 1999. Not because they were lazy, but rather because the barrel in question held the “dregs” of every other barrel racked that year, and was taken off the main inventory. When it was finally discovered, some 40+ months later, it was discovered that this method of lees resettle / loss recovery actually had a profound effect on the wine’s aromatic profile and texture. It was bottled and shared around with friends that Christmas as an experiment. And then they put the next vintage’s barrel into a competition: It won ‘Best Red’. By honouring this happy accident (and discovering a new winemaking technique in the process) Creekside continues to offer this uniquely crafted red under the Lost Barrel moniker.

Glugg leveraged the authenticity of the lore through the design of hand-drawn chalkmarks applied directly to the glass, with no official label and a dipped black wax seal over the cork.
